School Community Council Meeting Minutes

Monday, March 2, 2026, 4:00 pm

Library

In Attendance: Steve Brown, Jason Baxter, Kiki Fernandez, Carolee Mackay, Emily Willson

Agenda Items:

1.Welcome!

Meeting was called to order at 4:03pm.

2. Discussion and vote on approval of the February 2 meeting minutes

Reviewed meeting minutes from February 2. Motion to approve the minutes was made by Jason, Kikey seconded.  Vote was unanimous.

3. Land Trust / TSSP updates

LandTrust has $55,945 remaining

TSSP has $54,000.77 remaining

Most the consumable items have been purchased so mostly just going to salaries at this point. 

4. Proposed School Goals 2026-2027

Changes for next year:

Declining Enrollment at Midvale, next year will not have Kindergarten Dual Immersion

Looking at reducing to 4 Brain Boosters 

2 Behavior Assistants

5 Interventionists

26 teachers (2 less than current staffing)

Carolee presented the proposed goals and action plans for 2026-2027.  BLT participated in making the goals, but haven’t seen the whole plan.  SCC decided to vote and will just note if there are any changes after reviewing with the BLT to review it next month.  Jason asked about field trips, we have historically paid for that out of regular school funds so we will continue to do that.

  1. Action item: Vote on the Land Trust and TSSP plans for 2026-2027 Motion to approve was made by Kikey, Jason seconded. Vote was unanimous.

5. School Safety Report

February Hazmat drill we evacuated.  March will be a fire drill.  We also made sure that we had reviewed the evacuation routes especially the Brain Boosters classes.

6. Other Items:

a. Other topics to present to the council

Friday will have a Parent Focus Group at 8:15am. Family Literacy Night will be March 24; please join us.  Career Day is March 27th and we would love volunteers!

Kikey asked about the parking lot situation. Carolee explained that after we submitted the report she met with the director of facilities and they will be adding the roundabout striping and some additional painting for the right turn only off of Garden View Dr.

7. Adjourn

Carolee motioned to adjourn, seconded by Jason.  Meeting adjourned at 4:49pm.
