Book Blitz Jr.

Book Blitz Jr.

in Book Blitz Jr. is a fun and interactive literacy competition program for any 3rd – 5th graders with an interest in and a love of reading! Students read a minimum of 4-6 books by the beginning of February from a selected list of 12, write summaries, work together as teams, and compete on Battle Day (mid-February) using their collective knowledge of the content of the books — Jeopardy style! The 4th-5th grade winners of our school level Battle Day competition will participate in a district-wide competition on March 3, 2027. The primary purpose of Book Blitz Jr. is to foster students’ love of reading by introducing them to a wide variety of books by acclaimed authors in multiple formats.

Teams meet monthly in September, October, and November, and weekly after that to prepare for the competition.

The student promises to:

  1. I promise to listen to other’s ideas with respect.
  2. I promise to thoughtfully read each book by the meeting date.
  3. I promise to ask my coach for help if I need it.
  4. I promise to share responsibility for our team’s success and mistakes.
  5. I promise to represent my school by demonstrating integrity and good sportsmanship through the competition.

Students should submit completed book summaries to the Midvale Elementary administrative office. Those who submit summaries will receive a Brag Tag and be entered into a monthly drawing for a small prize. There will be a grand prize drawing at the end of the year. The number of summaries a student turns in will determine how many chances a student has to win the grand prize! Students who read all 12 books will receive a t-shirt!
