Chief Example for Others (CEO) Character Trait for May: Lifelong Learning and Personal Growth
RISE Testing Continues
End-of-year testing, called RISE, continues this week for 5th graders and begins Tuesday for 4th graders. Testing occurs on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (except for make-ups) through May 16. 3rd graders will begin their testing next week.
- Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
- Make the morning of testing as relaxing as possible by arriving to school on time. Testing begins right away in the morning so students must be to school by 8:15am so they are settled in and ready to begin.
- Encourage children to focus and pace themselves without rushing. It’s important for them to take their time, and read each question carefully.

Fresh Produce Market Tomorrow!
Our Fresh Produce Market will be available again tomorrow as well as each Tuesday through May 20. A parent/guardian can pick up a bag of fresh fruit and vegetables at no cost. It is first come, first served; we have a limited number of bags. The bags are typically ready to go by 1:30pm. We are so pleased to be able to offer this opportunity for our families once again!
State CHIP Health Insurance for Children
State CHIP is a state health insurance plan for children who are not currently covered by health insurance, who are not eligible for Medicaid or regular CHIP, and who meet income requirements. It covers a variety of medical, dental, and vision services for children.
Families can apply online at chip.utah.gov, call 866-435-7414, or contact our Canyons School District Outreach Services office at 801-826-7272.
Summer EBT
Utah SUN Bucks (also called Summer EBT) can help families buy food during the summer when schools are closed. Families get $120 for each eligible school-age child.
How do I get SUN Bucks? If you receive SNAP, TANF or Medicaid, and/or you qualify for free or reduced school lunch, your school-age children will automatically be enrolled, and SUN Bucks will be added to your SNAP account or issued as a separate electronic benefit transfer (EBT) card this summer.
If you attend a school where everyone receives free lunch (this is the case for Midvale Elementary!) and you do NOT receive SNAP, TANF or Medicaid, you can apply for SUN Bucks here. Applications must be submitted by August 31, 2025.
