Chief Example for Others (CEO) Character Trait for February
Determination and Hard Work
Thrive Time Focus of the Week
During Thrive Time lessons throughout the week, we’ll learn that when we have conflicts, we can find solutions by talking things out and using ‘I feel’ messages to share how we’re feeling without blaming others. Sometimes resolving conflicts means having calm conversations, listening to each other, and being willing to apologize when we’ve made a mistake. Let’s make our week great by using phrases like ‘I feel… when… because…’, taking time to talk things out respectfully, and remembering that finding solutions to conflicts helps make our relationships stronger!
Families, take time to talk about these ideas with your students at home as well! We can all practice these skills every day!
Digital Citizenship
Most kids will encounter mean behavior at some point in their digital lives. To some kids, this experience is a blip that’s easily forgotten, while for others it can have deep, long-lasting effects. For parents, the key is staying involved in kids’ lives — both online and off — so they can step in and offer help if necessary. With guidance from parents and educators, kids can learn how to dodge the drama and stand up for others. Visit Common Sense Media to learn more about these quick tips (click here).
WIDA ACCESS Testing Continues This Week!
To our families of Multilingual Learners (children who are, or have been, consistently exposed to multiple languages especially at home):
The WIDA ACCESS test measures our students’ English language proficiency across four language domains: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
The testing schedule will be as follows:
WIDA ACCESS: Speaking Test
Week of February 2-6
WIDA ACCESS: Writing Test
Week of February 9-13
Below, are some good reminders for the upcoming test,
- Get good rest during the weeks of testing.
- Eat a healthy breakfast before testing.
- Do your best! There’s no need to study, as this test measures what students already know.
Kindness Week is Coming!
Kindness Week is next week! Each day we will wear something different and participate in class discussions and activities that remind us of the many ways we can be kind to others and to ourselves! Talk with your students about ways that we can all show kindness every day!
