Chief Example for Others (CEO) Character Traits for February: Compassion
A Message from Principal Mackay
Dear Midvale Elementary Families,
I know that with today’s political climate, many in our community are feeling fear and uncertainty. I want to take a moment to reaffirm that our school is a place of safety, support, and belonging for all students. Every child deserves to feel welcome and secure at school, and we are committed to ensuring that happens.
All of our staff care deeply about our students and the community we serve. We want to see our students here every day because we know that being in school is critical to their success and well-being. If you ever have concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or to me directly.
As a reminder, the district has shared important information regarding recent changes to federal immigration policies. Please know that Canyons District:
- Remains committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment to all students.
- Will continue to follow laws guaranteeing that all children in the United States, regardless of their immigration status, have a right to a free and appropriate education.
- Does not collect or share information about the immigration status of students.
- Encourages parents and guardians to update their emergency contact information with the school office. Emergency contacts can be family members or a trusted adult designated by the guardian.
- Has counselors and wellness staff available to support students who may be feeling stress or anxiety related to these changes.
Thank you for being part of our school community. We are here for you and your children.
Sincerely,
Principal Mackay
Reminder about Toys and Personal Belongings
Families, please review this information from our Student and Family Handbook with your students:
- All toys and personal items (eg. Pokemon cards, fidget spinners, balls, stuffed animals, etc) are expected to stay at home as these items cause a distraction from learning. They may be confiscated by staff if they are consistently disruptive. The school will not be responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
Please also check the Lost and Found area for any of your child’s belongings such as coats, hoodies, etc.
Career Day is on Friday!
Friday, February 7th, from 9:00 to 10:15 AM is our Midvale Elementary Career Day! Families, we need YOU!!! We still need several volunteers in order to host this valuable experience!
We are asking for volunteers to speak about their careers, so come share your expertise with our students! Volunteers can be parents, guardians, grandparents, or friends of the family. Students love to have their loved ones come to their classrooms.
Click or visit the link https://cnyns.org/3ThwlEF for more information and to sign up.
Thanks for your support. We look forward to seeing you there!

WIDA Access Testing Continues!
To our families of Multilingual Learners (children who are, or have been, consistently exposed to multiple languages especially at home):
WIDA ACCESS Testing continues this week. The WIDA ACCESS test measures our students’ English language proficiency across four language domains: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.
Testing schedule:
Speaking Test
Week of February 3rd-7th
Writing Test
Week of February 10th-14th
Below, are some good reminders for the upcoming test:
- Get good rest during the weeks of testing.
- Eat a healthy breakfast before testing.
- Do your best! There’s no need to study, as this test measures what students already know.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your support!
