Chief Example for Others (CEO) Character Trait for January

PEACE

Thrive Time Focus of the Week

In our Thrive Time lessons this week, we’ll learn that when we have conflicts, it helps to communicate our feelings clearly and try to understand other people’s points of view – because everyone sees situations differently. Being flexible in our thinking, helps us see different ways to solve problems and understand how our choices affect others. Let’s make this week wonderful by sharing our feelings respectfully, trying to understand others’ perspectives, and remembering that flexible thinking helps us find better solutions to conflicts!

Families, take time to talk about these ideas with your students at home as well! We can all practice these skills every day!

Cold Weather and Inside Day Procedures

Brrrr, it is COLD outside! Make sure your student is dressed warmly for the weather! Please let Heidi Sanger know if your student is in need of a warm coat. if your students have lost their coats, hoodies, or other items, please check Lost and Found!

If the Red Flag is hanging outside in the morning, it is an “inside morning” and students may sit in the cafeteria, gym, or on the Grand Staircase to wait for the bell to ring and then proceed to their classrooms. Please remind students that they need to stay in those designated areas inside the building and not wander the school.

Parking Lot Safety Reminders – PLEASE READ

Families, please help us keep all students safe before and after school by following the parking lot guidelines:

Parking Lot and Loading/Unloading Procedures

  1. Obey ALL traffic signs, drive slowly, and pull all the way forward. DO NOT drop students off in the bus lane in front of the flag pole!
  2. All students should enter or exit the vehicle on the passenger side, in the unloading/loading zone next to the sidewalk. No vehicle doors should open on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
  3. Students are not to walk between or behind stationary cars. Use crosswalks and sidewalks only.
  4. Drivers must remain in the car unless the vehicle is parked in a designated parking stall. Parents who need to escort students into the building must use a parking stall. Please do not park in the designated disability parking spots unless you have official disability plates or a displayed placard.
  5. Drivers should have students ready to exit the vehicle when they reach the pick-up/drop-off area. When students have safely exited the vehicle, the driver must leave immediately to allow others to drop off in a timely manner.
  6. Utah’s Seat Belt Law: ALL passengers must wear seat belts in all seating positions and children up to age 8 must be properly restrained in a car seat or booster seat. Children under 13 should ride in the back seat for maximum safety! https://clickit.utah.gov/

Please be respectful of school staff directing traffic in the parking lot. They are there to keep kids safe. Remember, kids are always watching what we do as adults and how we treat others!

Attendance Matters!

Parents and students, let’s start the second half of our school year strong by making school attendance a shared priority! Every day in class is a chance to learn, connect, and grow. Did you know that missing just 2 days a month can put students at risk of falling behind both academically and socially? Let’s work together to build strong habits and make every day count! #EveryDayCounts

WIDA ACCESS Testing Begins This Week!

To our families of Multilingual Learners (children who are, or have been, consistently exposed to multiple languages especially at home):

The WIDA ACCESS test measures our students’ English language proficiency across four language domains: reading, listening, speaking, and writing.

The testing schedule will be as follows:
WIDA ACCESS: Reading and Listening Test
Week of January 26-30
WIDA ACCESS: Speaking Test
Week of February 2-6
WIDA ACCESS: Writing Test
Week of February 9-13

The aim of this test is to give teachers a better understanding of each student’s current language skills and identify areas where they may need further support. This will allow teachers to better tailor their instruction more effectively to student need.

Below, are some good reminders for the upcoming test,

  • Get good rest during the weeks of testing.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast before testing.
  • Do your best! There’s no need to study, as this test measures what students already know.

We are excited for our students to participate in this important assessment. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Thank you for your support!
