Monday Mustang Message
March 4 – 8, 2024
Thank you to all of the families who attended Family Teacher Conferences last week. We loved having you here!
Friday is our Be Excited About Reading Day!
- Students may bring a stuffed animal friend to read with during the day.
- Breakfast and Books! Families and students, please join us for a light breakfast and time to read together. Our Instructional Coaches will be there to talk about how to support your student in improving their reading skills. We will also draw names for prizes! Note: if you plan to attend and need an interpreter for a language other than Spanish or English, please contact Heidi Sanger on ParentSquare or in the office.
- Later in the morning, volunteers through the United Way will be in classrooms reading with students and their stuffed animal friends, and students will enjoy a fun snack.
Digital Citizenship: Make time for some family fun this spring! If you’re looking to balance screen time during your child’s spring break, here are ways you can make precious memories together without the use of devices. You could even let different family members take turns choosing activities each day. Find more activities and resources at www.commonsense.org/families.
Free Summer Reading Program
Get ready for summer reading with Kids Read Now! As part of a legislative effort to improve literacy across our state, your child will be receiving 4 free books this summer through the non-profit, Kids Read Now. Your child’s teacher will help your child choose four books to be delivered to your home this summer.
In order to have the books arrive by mail, your school will provide your address to Kids Read Now in the next week, unless you choose to opt out. Forms were sent home this week about this. Once Kids Read Now has received your information, they will send a welcome postcard to confirm your mailing address, as well as additional resources to help you engage with the program. Please make sure that the school has your correct address and phone number or your student will not receive their free books!
Looking Ahead:
- Maturation Program for Fifth Graders: “Your children are growing up.” While growing up can be hard, talking about it needn’t be. To help start conversations about health and the maturation process, Canyons District sponsors an informational program for fifth grade students and their parents. Families may attend the presentation that best fits their schedule. Parents are advised to leave younger siblings at home.
