Attendance Challenge
Our Attendance Challenge concluded on Friday and we have a winning grade level who will have the honor of decorating our holiday tree this year! Congratulations to our 3rd graders!
Average attendance over the last two weeks:
Kinder: 87%
1st: 88%
2nd: 85%
3rd: 94%
4th: 90%5th: 86%
And I wonder if you guessed that our highest average attendance occurs on Wednesdays each week! Let’s work hard to make every day count and to be in school every day to learn and grow!
Along with good attendance, please help your student to be on time in the morning, and avoid checking your student out early to ensure that they can participate in all of the learning activities each day.
If you are struggling to get your student to school every day, please reach out to your student’s teacher or our wellness team or one of our administrative team. We want to help!
Exciting News!
Students were cheering throughout the school when they heard the news….we are ALL going to the America First Field on December 3!
America First and RSL have teamed up to offer all Midvale Elementary School students and staff the opportunity to go on a field trip to the America First Field on December 3 to meet RSL players, tour the stadium, enjoy some lunch, and more! There are some surprises in store, so make sure you have signed the permission form that was sent home by teachers and that your student is in school on Tuesday, December 3, on time and ready to go. We are so excited!
So many clothes…
Families, our Lost and Found area is FULL and OVERFLOWING! Please, please, come and get your students’ clothing and other items that they are missing! There are hoodies, jackets, backpacks, lunch boxes and more!
Anything that is not claimed by its owner by Friday, December 6, will be donated.
And for the future, make sure your students come home with the same clothing they left with, and put their names in them just in case!
Supporting Student Learning at Home
With Thanksgiving and Winter Breaks/Recess coming up soon, families may find themselves looking for ways to engage students in activities that support learning at home. Check out the following suggestions:
1) Read, read, read. Read to your student, have them read to you, listen to audiobooks while following along on book apps, point out different words as you are walking or driving in your community, read your own book while your student reads their books.
- Use the SORA app to access e-books and audiobooks. Students can access their school accounts at https://soraapp.com/library/canyonsut where they enter their school email addresses and passwords.
- Visit your local public library! Tyler Library is our closest library and they have so much to offer! The address is 8041 South Wood Street, Midvale.
2) Students can access their Lexia (English Language Arts) and DreamBox (Math) accounts from anywhere. Students work on material that is based on their skill level. On the Midvale Elementary Website, click on the Clever link and they can sign in and access their accounts. Please check with teachers if your student doesn’t know their user ID and password.
3) Talk, talk, talk. Ask students about what they learned in school and say, “Tell me more about that!” Talk with them about what they see and hear, what they think things mean. Use opportunities such as cooking to talk about numbers and measuring. Use the world around you to help your child learn and grow!
