Volunteers Needed!
Nurse Heather needs some help from parents! She and other nurses from the District will be doing vision and hearing screenings for students on October 7 from 8:15 – 10:30am. We would love to have some parent volunteers here to help. It is an easy job and she will explain exactly what to do; no previous experience required. Please sign up on the form on ParentSquare to help out and make sure that your volunteer application through Canyons School District has been completed this school year.
Thrive Time Focus of the Week
In Thrive Time lessons this week, we’ll be focusing on how supportive relationships make our school stronger, especially when we work together as a team and communicate with respect. When we face challenges, having positive relationships helps us navigate tough situations and find solutions together. Let’s make our week amazing by being a supportive classmate, communicating respectfully with others, and remembering that every challenge becomes easier when we work together!

Looking for Advanced Learning Opportunities for Your Child?
Does your child have an insatiable curiosity, a need to explore subjects in surprising depth, or ability to quickly learn complex information? If so, your student may be a candidate for Canyons School District’s SALTA magnet program. SALTA, Supporting Advanced Learners Toward Achievement, serves students who demonstrate significantly high cognitive and academic abilities in comparison to their peers. Students in kindergarten through the seventh grade can apply to test into the program starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026. All applications are due at midnight on Friday, Oct. 2.
Due to the time-intensive and rigorous nature of the process for determining a student’s fit for the program, parents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the testing requirements well before completing an application. After applying, parents will receive an email with information about testing times and locations. Questions? See canyonsdistrict.org or call 801-826-5044.
Applications Open September 30 for 2027-28 Dual Language Immersion Program
Did you know that in Canyons District, it’s possible to learn two languages at the same time and to graduate from high school fluent in both? Midvale Elementary offers Spanish Dual Language Immersion and it’s nearly time for entering first graders (current kindergarteners) to apply to enroll for the 2027-2028 school year.
Applications are being accepted online anytime from Wednesday, Sept. 30 through Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2026. A lottery will be held to determine entrance into the programs if the number of applicants exceeds the seats available, but any kindergarten-aged student in Utah may apply.
Immersion programs are a great way to challenge students while preparing them to compete in today’s global marketplace. Elementary students spend half the day learning core subjects in English and the other half learning in a target language. The program extends through high school where students can work to pass an Advanced Placement exam and take college-level courses for early college credit.
Families interested in learning about these programs are invited to attend a parent informational meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 6:30-8 p.m. in the PEAKS room at the Canyons District Offices, 9361 S. 300 East, Sandy. Midvale Elementary will also host a local informational meeting on October 13; look for details to come.
The Dentist is Coming!
Big Smiles Dental Clinic is coming back to our school November 9-11, 2026. Consent forms will be sent home with students; you may also complete the consent form online here: https://www.myschooldentist.com/MECAUT_schsrm if you are interested in having your students go to the dentist here at school. Please be sure to complete all requested information.
Community Wellness Fair
Our Community Schools are hosting a Community Wellness Fair at Midvale Middle School on Thursday, October 8, from 5:30-7:30pm. Learn about the programs and resources available in our community, including prevention health screenings and free haircuts for students. Free Chick-fil-A sandwiches will be served starting at 5:30pm. We will see you there!
