Chief Example for Others (CEO) Character Trait for September: Responsibility

Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month!

On Monday, September 16, at 7:50am in front of the school, we will be honoring National Hispanic Heritage Month with a morning celebration before we begin the school day. National Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The Independence Days of many of these countries fall on September 15-16. Please join us, and wear the colors or traditional dress of one of these countries. We will celebrate with dancing, singing, and El Grito.

Free Groceries

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 10, we will be hosting our first Mobile Food Pantry of the year at 3:05pm. Families of Midvale Elementary School students can get free groceries after school. Students are welcome to take a bag home; the bags can be quite heavy so if you have little ones, please plan to have someone at the school to help them carry it.

Free Vaccine Clinics

Canyons School District’s Nursing Department is sponsoring vaccine clinic at which qualifying students can receive school-required vaccines at no cost. This will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 3:00 – 7:00pm at Midvale Middle School, 7852 S Pioneer Street, Midvale.

How many absences are too many? Just missing two days a month can throw students off their trajectory. #Attendance Matters

Attendance: Show Up, On Time, All Day, Every Day

Children who attend school every day or miss at most 1 day a month, are more likely to read on or above grade level. Making sure students are present every day helps to ensure that they don’t miss important information that is part of the stepping stones of learning.

Please help your student to be on time in the morning, and make sure that they stay until the end of the school day. We are noticing that parents are picking students up early, which leads to students missing important learning as well as interrupts the class when office staff need to call students down out of class. Please help us minimize interruptions and wait until the end of the day for your student to be released. Thank you so much for working with us on this!

Attendance Matters

We love having our families here at school! On Friday, September 20, we will be hosting our first Family Matters Friday event of the year. These events provide an opportunity for parents, grandparents, and other parent-figures to spend time with their children, talk about important topics, enjoy a light breakfast, and spend a little time in classrooms. Please plan to join us from 7:30am – 8:15am in the school gym, and then from 8:20 – 8:50am in classrooms. For those who go into the classrooms, we ask that you sign in as a visitor in the office and leave younger children at home.

Parent Ambassadors

As part of our ongoing efforts to support all families within our school community, we are excited to introduce the Parent Ambassador program. This initiative aims to connect newcomer families (families new to the country, new to Midvale Elementary) with existing parents (parents who have been here for some time) who speak languages other than English. By fostering these connections, we hope to provide a warm welcome and valuable support to families who may be navigating language barriers as they adjust to our school environment.

If you are a parent who speaks a language other than English and would like to volunteer as a Parent Ambassador, please consider sharing your contact information with us.

Big Smiles Dental

Big Smiles Dental Clinic is coming to our school October 7-10. Forms were sent home the first week of school. If you are interested in having your child seen by the dentist, please either complete and return the registration form or you may also apply online at www.MySchoolDentist.com. You must include your insurance information.

If you do not have insurance and are requesting donated dental care from Big Smiles, you will need to complete another form which will be available in the school office or through Big Smiles. Please note that the number of students receiving donated care is very limited and is not guaranteed by Big Smiles.
