Gov. Gary Herbert and state education authorities today announced that Utah public schools will be dismissed until Friday, May 1 to stem the spread of COVID-19, also known as novel coronavirus.
Previously, all Utah schools, including Canyons District, had been placed on a “soft closure” March 16-27. To the end of providing educational services to students during the length of the dismissal, Canyons students will engage in remote learning opportunities guided by teachers.
If a Canyons student does not have access to an electronic device, parents are encouraged to call their child’s school to inquire about checking out a Chromebook. This will be important as CSD teachers provide new materials and content in an online format, starting Tuesday, March 31.
To follow health guidelines to avoid gatherings of groups of 10 or more, Canyons teachers are being encouraged to work from home and a limited number of Canyons District employees will be at school buildings and the Canyons District Office throughout the dismissal.
Canyons will continue to serve grab-and-go meals to students. Starting tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, Canyons District’s Nutrition Services will start curbside delivery of sack meals. Parents don’t even have to leave their cars. All they need to do is tell staff members how many sacks they need. If parents do not have a car, they can walk up to the serving table and request the meals, which are for children 18 years and under. In addition, beginning Thursday, March 26, during the 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. meal service, children will receive two sacks. One will have that day’s lunch. The other will contain food and milk for the following day’s breakfast.
Canyons District will not serve meals during the April 6-10 Spring Recess.
