3. Midyear Progress Monitoring Data – Chip Watts
Chip displayed and reviewed latest PM data.
Math: Kinder data is trending upward; they are on target to meet or exceed goal by the end of the year. First grade is on target to meet end of year benchmark. Second grade data is moving in the right direction. Third graders are making good progress – more than doubled where they were at at the beginning of the year. Fourth grade is moving and meeting their goal. Fifth grade: coaches are working with teachers on some coaching cycles. (Amanda stated that this is the first year that 4th grade has been working on fractions in January – it is usually March!)
ELA: First Grade: 70% typical or better growth. Second Grade: 53% typical or better growth. Third Grade: 82% typical or better growth. Fourth Grade: 92% typical or better growth. Fifth Grade: 77% typical or better growth.
These scores demonstrate much better growth than in previous years. Steve noted that it has been exciting to see the growth over the years and see what is happening at Midvale Middle.
4. State Superintendent Report – Chip Watts
Chip had a meeting with the State Superintendent Cindy Dixon before break. She reviewed the school accountability report which contains 3 areas: Achievement, Growth, and English Learner Progress. Three years ago, we were in the Critical Needs area. In all three areas. This year, in Achievement, we went to Developing status. In Growth we went to Commendable status. In EL Progress we went to Typical status. She notified him that Midvale Elementary is no longer a Turnaround School!!!!
5. Land Trust & TSSA Reports (Teacher and Student Success Account) Chip Watts
TSSA/Land Trust: Our plans state we would be hiring reading interventionists. We have been able to hire all but one of those. Our spending is on track. Steve noted that at the next meeting we should talk about areas we would like to focus on with TSSA funds. At this time, the Legislature is still discussing guidelines for the TSSA funds.
Chip will send out the Land Trust Plan to the group before the next meeting and will bring a detailed summary to the next meeting. We would like to make sure the goals we set are ambitious as well as realistic.
