Agenda:
- Welcome!
Steve called the meeting to order at 4:02pm. Introductions were made for new members. - Discussion and vote on approval of the September 8th meeting minutes
Discussion on the minutes. Jason motioned to approve the minutes; Kikey seconded. All voted in favor; none opposed. Passed unanimously. Motion carried.
- Finalize SCC members for 25-26 school year
We have all of our members here today, and this is our SCC for this year. Steve mentioned that we would love to have people just attend some meetings to see what they are like so that they might be willing to join us next year as a member. Steve thanked everyone for their service on the committee. - Approve proposed amendment to the 25-26 TSSP and Land Trust Plans
Title I funds were cut by $60,000 due to lower enrollment this year so we’d like to move one of our reading interventionists under our TSSA budget with the carryover funds from last year. We need to review this proposed expenditure change and approve it, and then send it to the School Board to approve.
Lyndzi made a motion to approve the change; Jason seconded. All voted in favor; none opposed. Passed unanimously. Motion carried. - Approve Safe Walking Route for 25-26 school year
The 2025-26 Safe Walking Route was approved by our SCC in October 2025 and approved by Susan Edwards on May 12, 2025. The CSD website https://www.canyonsdistrict.org/scc/timeline/ indicates that we are to review the 2026-27 Safe Walking Route.
The route itself has not changed. Carolee asked for any concerns with the plan, property, etc. Kikey mentioned graffiti on the route (not on school property); Steve noted that the city can be contacted about any graffiti and they will address it. Kikey also expressed concern about the U-turn area because it is not clearly designated. Carolee noted that the District has said they won’t repaint the circle when this was brought up as a concern previously (Safety Report 2023-24). Carolee noted it as a concern in the Safe Route Plan. Adding the Crossing Guard by Midvale Middle (on Pioneer St) has been helpful.
Jason motioned to approve the Safe Walking Route Plan; Kikey seconded the motion. All voted in favor; none opposed. Passed unanimously. Motion carried. - Digital Citizenship review and approval
Heidi reviewed the Digital Citizenship Week activities as well as noted that the lessons that are built into the Thrive Time and Library Brain Booster curriculum. Hillary noted that the LanSchool has been much faster that in previous years so it is easier to monitor students on their Chromebooks. Members were provided with the Technology Use at Midvale Elementary information sheet. Carolee reviewed the plan questions with the members. Steve noted that it is very easy to find the information on the Midvale Elementary and the District websites. - Review testing data from the beginning of the year
Carolee reviewed the Literacy and Math Data from this fall, as well as the School Climate Goal (attendance). - Land Trust / TSSP updates and review
TSSA Total $172,075.18
LandTrust Total $109,511.98
Our allocations were a little higher than we were initially told. This will be reflected on the school website. - School Safety Report
Lockdown drill was last month and everyone did well. The Run, Hide, Fight protocol will be taught to the staff this month.
We did have a Secure on September 25. Carolee shared the details of what occurred. It was challenging since it was at drop off before school started, which is a very vulnerable time of the day. Lyndzi expressed that the District needs to have a plan for before and after school since most of the planning is while school is going on. Kikey also expressed concern and suggested that we teach the students what they should do in such a situation. Carolee did have conversations with the District about it and will follow up on that again. She will provide an update and she will also put it in the School Safety Report.
Carolee noted that Mrs. Willson also does some silent drills in which students and staff are asked to pause and think about what they would do if there was a particular situation occurring, which helps to cover times such as lunch, recess, going to the bathroom, etc. - Other Items:
Other topics to present to the council:
We will look at reviewing and updating the bylaws at our next meeting; Steve will put it on the agenda. - Adjourn
Carolee motioned to adjourn the meeting; Lyndzi seconded the motion. All approved. Meeting adjourned at 5:22pm.
Next meeting: November 3, 2025
