Monday Mustang Message

February 27 – March 3, 2023

  • What a week we had last week! We are so glad to see our students back at school!
  • Attendance Message:  We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again, “You Can’t Grow if You Don’t Show!” Let us know how we can support you in getting your students to school. And a big thank you to all of the students and families who are getting here each day to learn!
  • Family Conferences are this week! Hopefully you are signed up to meet with your student’s teacher! Here are some scheduling items to note:
    • Wednesday, March 1, and Thursday, March 2: Family Teacher Conferences, PTA Book Fair, Resource Fair
      • Note: Early Out on Thursday, March 2, at 1:25 pm
    • Friday, March 3: No School
    • Monday, March 6: Virtual Learning Day, no in-person classes
  • Thursday is also Read Across America Day! We will have volunteers through the United Way coming into classrooms who will be reading books about various cultures around the world to students and assisting teachers with activities. We will also be having the author of one of those books reading to and talking with our 2nd Grade students that morning. What a treat to have Cindy Crosby, author of Saying Hello: A Journey Around the World Through Language and Culture, come to Midvale Elementary!
  • Read Across America Day is our kickoff event for March Reading Month! We will be sending home Reading Logs for students to complete and return each week; the classes with the most minutes read will earn a class surprise! At the end of the month we will be having an evening family event during which we will “travel the world” and learn about other countries! Families, we would love your help with this. Reach out to your teachers or to Heidi Sanger if you want to assist!
  • Our Building Leader Team, consisting of our Principal, Assistant Principals, Instructional Coaches, a Teacher from each grade level and the resource team, worked together to create a set of Midvale Commitments. These were shared with our faculty, and now we would like to share them with our families. Each week we will share one of the six areas of focus:

Leadership

We commit to practicing shared leadership
through collaboration with all people who
have an invested interest in our Midvale
community.
We commit to active listening with an open
mind so that all perspectives can be shared
and recognized.
We commit to advocate for our Midvale
community by bringing awareness to the
district, our teachers and staff of our
individual needs.

Looking Ahead:

  • Monday, March 6: Virtual Learning Day, no in-person classes
  • Tuesday, March 14: Mobile Food Pantry
  • Friday, March 17: Moms Matter Session
  • Tuesday, March 28: Travel the World: Family Literacy Adventure Night
