School Community Council Meeting Agenda
Monday, January 6, 2025, 4:00 pm
Library
In Attendance: Stephanie Miller, Lyndzi Elsmore, Carolee Mackay, Heidi Sanger, Steve Brown, Jason Baxter, Caidy Atwood
Absent: Kikey Fernandez, Pralee Price
Agenda Items:
- Welcome
Steve called the meeting to order at 4:05pm.
- Discussion and vote on approval of the November 4, 2024, meeting minutes
Lyndzi motioned to approve the minutes; Jason seconded. All in favor; passed unanimously.
- Review and discussion on council members who have not attended
Steve started the discussion by noting that we are required by our bylaws to have a quorum to vote on any actions. When we have members who consistently do not attend, we cannot move forward as we do not have a quorum. Our bylaws state that if a member misses 3 meetings in a year they can be invited to resign. Of course, they can still attend the meetings but would be unable to vote.
Two members have missed three or more meetings this year; one of them has not attended any meetings. Reviewed the bylaws and the options in regard to this issue. Carolee will reach out to both of these members and invite them to commit to attending or to resign in order to facilitate the council’s effectiveness.
- Land Trust / TSSP updates and review
At this time, we have $64,461.98 in LandTrust funds remaining, and $94,010.07 in TSSA funds remaining. Next Tuesday is our halfway mark through the school year! Later this month, we have our reading and math testing, so we will be able to review where we are at with our goals at our next meeting. After that, we will start discussing our plans for next year.
- School Safety Report
During the winter recess, staff had 48 Crisis Go app alerts in a two hour period. Needless to say, we know that the app works, especially after testing every scenario that day.
Last month, our drill was a Hold which went well. Teachers are getting more efficient at marking students present/absent. Our monthly drill this month is a Fire Drill, which will be held on January 13.
In regard to our Safe Walking Route, the Risk Management team told Carolee that no crosswalk is needed at Garden View unless it is an ADA sidewalk. However, we do have to staff the crosswalk on the south side of the middle school field so that started today. It takes 4 minutes to walk over to that spot.
- Other Items:
Other topics to present to the council: Jason noted that the Midvale Mayor is now Dustin Gettel. He also noted that the Land Trust allocation increase passed.
- Adjourn
Motion to adjourn was made by Stephanie; seconded by Jason. All in favor. Meeting adjourned at 4:51pm.
Next meeting: February 3, 2025
