School Community Council Meeting Agenda

In Attendance: Carolee Mackay, Steve Brown, Heidi Sanger, Alyssa Watson-Siriboe, Jason Baxter, Kwame Watson-Siriboe, Stephanie Miller, Kristine Millerberg

Absent: Kikey Fernandez

Agenda Items:

  1. Welcome

Members introduced themselves to Kristine Millerberg, our new school board representative, and she shared her experience. Mrs. Millerberg also shared the need for the Midvale community to raise a strong voice to advocate for students in Midvale, something that her husband Mont and she herself have advocated for for many years. 

Carolee presented Mrs. Millerberg with a Lifetime Mustang Award plaque in honor of her late husband Mont Millerberg.

  1. Discussion and vote on approval of the March 18th 2024 meeting minutes

Jason motioned to approve the March minutes; seconded by Alyssa. Motion passed unanimously and was carried.

  1. Land Trust / TSSP updates and review

The LandTrust dollars are down to about $11,000 which can be carried over to next year. Carolee is still spending down the TSSP dollars which should be down to the 10% that is allowed for carryover. 

  1. School Accountability Report

Carolee reported that we did the Great Utah Shakeout emergency drill in April which went well. We have RISE testing going on right now; 5th and 4th graders have started and 3rd grade will also do some RISE testing. Next Monday and Tuesday we will be doing Acadience testing. 

  1. Other Items:
    Other topics to present to the council: 

  • The new bell schedule was approved for next year. The welcome bell will ring at 8:15am and school will begin at 8:20am. We will also be blocking off the gate between the middle and elementary school. Breakfast may start at 7:50am; this is still being confirmed.
  • Parking lot update: They will be puting a speed bump in right in front of the crosswalk west of the main crosswalk in front of the building.
  • The middle school may be making some changes in their parking lot flow; more information to come on this.
  • Steve proposed that we do an end-of-year celebration at our next meeting to thank Alyssa and Kwame for their service on the SCC, and we will review our end of year data.
  • Our bylaws currently say that elections are to be held in the fall; we will review that in that fall to make adjustments. We will discuss 2024-25 meeting dates at the May meeting as well.

Alyssa motioned to adjourn; Jason seconded. Meeting adjourned at 4:43pm.
